Ever since Suja came across my radar screen in 2012, I knew that there was something special about this San Diego-based pressed juice powerhouse.
And each year, they continue to prove me right.
In 2014, they were named the #3 Most Promising Company in the U.S. by Forbes magazine, a truly amazing accomplishment. Incredibly, in 2015, they moved up one spot to the #2 Most Promising Company in the U.S. by Forbes.
The good news keeps rolling in as Suja recently announced a $20M round of financing led by Evolution Media Partners, a joint venture with TPG Growth, Participant Media, and Evolution Media Capital, the latter of which is a merchant bank formed in 2008 in partnership with Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Additional investors in the round included Leonardo DiCaprio, Sofia Vergara, and Jared Leto.
These celebrities, however, aren’t putting money into Suja simply because it is a potential way to make money on the exploding pressed organic juice trend. They’re firm believers in the product, which speaks to the integrity of the company and quality of the juice.
“As someone constantly on the go, I have come to count on Suja not only to help me maintain my health and energy but to provide a great tasting fun alternative,” says Leto. “I am passionate about discovering brands that I not only actually use and enjoy, but also holistically believe in, and Suja is a great exemplifier of this search.”
“Since Suja’s launch in May 2012, the brand has been blessed with an authentic and loyal fan following,” says James Brennan, Suja co-founder. “We are lucky enough that some of these fans happened to be Hollywood’s most respected celebrities and wanted to do more than just enjoy the juice but actually be part of the Suja Juice movement.”
While having high profile celebrities on board will certainly garner a lot of attention, the addition of CAA is arguably the most important investor of them all.
This uber-powerful agency has tremendous influence in the world of entertainment, and don’t be surprised to see Suja products show up on TV shows, in movies, and in many other areas of pop culture.
With tens of millions in new money and some extremely influential partners now on board, Suja is poised to become the first billion dollar pressed organic juice brand.
And based on what I have seen so far and having gotten to know the management team well over the past few years, I have little doubt that Suja will reach this milestone.
This company is that impressive.
