The path that Caroline Beckman has taken to becoming an entrepreneur in the organic food world is anything but conventional.
At 18, she made the courageous decision to drop out of college to work with the founding team at Suja, which would go on to establish itself as the country’s most successful pressed organic juice brand.
From there, this Sacramento native landed a highly coveted Thiel Felllowship, a $100,000 grant from technology billionaire Peter Thiel “to build new things instead of sitting in a classroom”.
With this money, she took time to study probiotics and just recently launched her first consumer products company called Nomva. Currently on sale at select retailers in Southern California, Nomva is an on-the-go snack that infuses organic fruits and vegetables with billions of probiotics.
Here is an inside look at Caroline’s lifestyle.
EAT: When dining out I generally prefer a Mediterranean diet, I’m a big fan of fresh veggies and fish. A couple of my clutch on-the-go eats (which are almost all of my eats) are Nomva Packs and Hail Merry raw macaroons.
DRINK: My standard for beverages was set high from early on – and, of course, I can’t get enough Suja Juice (personal favorites are Twelve Essentials and Lavenade).
I’m also a huge fan of Health-Ade kombucha, as well a rather unmentioned number of cold-brew coffees a day.
SWEAT: Boxing! Over the last few months, I’ve started boxing as a part of my daily workout and I love it. The combination of mental and physical demand never gets boring. A quick Equinox visit and some boxing are what keep me sane.
READ: Quick reads – I love concise, well crafted, self-improvement reading. One particular mention my mentor had me read early on was 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I would strongly recommend that book to anyone.
LISTEN: I listen to almost everything and am fascinated with the talent of musicians because it is definitely not my gift in life. A few particulars that we listen to while working are Coldplay, The 1975, and of course…Taylor Swift.
WATCH: I haven’t had too much time to get into very many shows over the last few years, but I’m a movie person and recently thought that Sicario was an incredible film. I also really love watching basketball and try to make it to as many games as possible in my hometown.
PLACES: As long as I’m not far from an ocean, I’m a pretty happy person. I love traveling in general and exploring new places, but one of my go-to retreats over the past year has been Le Parker Meridian in Palm Springs.
RITUALS: Current rituals include sleeping very little and working very hard, haha. A few other rituals I have are making sure I get 15 minutes of complete quiet every morning, getting to the gym once a day, and spending at least an hour or two every night with friends and family.
DREAMS: My perspective has changed so much from experiencing the process of transforming ideas into action. One dream I have is that I am able to help many more perspectives widen and ideas come to life.
WHAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME: Until high school, I wasn’t in traditional schooling. My parents curated an independent learning environment for my siblings and me. Today, I credit many of my self-starting tendencies, exploration and communication skills to this!
What an interesting person!
