There are very few people who have the credibility to launch a podcast called The School of Greatness.
But, Lewis Howes is one of them.
What Lewis has achieved in the last few years is ridiculously impressive. He has built multiple 7-figure online businesses, interviewed some of the world’s leading entrepreneurs such as Arianna Huffington and Tony Robbins, and started a podcast, which reached a peak of #26 on iTunes and now averages close to 800,000 downloads per month.
Furthermore, his new book, aptly titled The School of Greatness: A Real-World Guide to Living Bigger, Loving Deeper, and Leaving a Legacy, hits bookstores today yet has already reached #1 on Amazon.
I caught up with my friend recently, and he shared a little with me about his lifestyle habits.
EAT: I am one of the world’s pickiest eaters, but I love eating healthy . . . most of the time. Sushi at Sugarfish in Beverly Hills is always a win for me! Also, the lasagna at Fresh Corn Grill in West Hollywood is amazing.
DRINK: Organifi – it is an amazing dried green juice for when I’m traveling. I also love my pressed green juice and smoothies. My favorite smoothie bar is Earthbar on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. I am there all the time (and have had a lot of first dates there).
SWEAT: I run almost every day. I work out in my home gym right now, although I did CrossFit for a while. Every few months or so, I like to take on a new sport or hobby to master. Most recently, it was acroyoga, especially at the beach in Santa Monica.
READ: I just finished the Zimzum of Love: A New Way of Understanding Marriage by my friend Rob Bell, and I’m currently reading The Art of Learning: An Inner Journey to Optimal Performance by Josh Waitzkin, which my buddy Tom Bilyeu recommended. Even though I have a huge bookshelf in my office full of awesome books from podcast guests, I don’t read a ton. I’m more of a movie guy.
LISTEN: Spotify is where it’s at. I’m always listening to random playlists or stations on there. I’m really hooked on CJ Baron’s music. My brother Chris Howes’ music is amazing as well. He’s a world famous jazz violinist, and he blows my mind every time I hear him perform.
WATCH: House of Cards is AMAZING. It pulls me in every time. And, of course, I watch anything sports, especially Ohio State Football. I like going to events my friends put on. Recently, I went to an incredible talk by Rob Bell on how everything is spiritual. Blew my mind.
PLACES: Buenos Aires is magical. I love New Zealand, Hawaii, and recently fell in love with Asia when I went there to tour some schools I built with Pencils of Promise in Laos and Thailand. I love staying with friends when I’m in NYC or Austin.
RITUALS: I express gratitude every morning and do a guided meditation every evening. I also acknowledge and give gratitude to the last person I speak to at night before going to bed. On my voicemail greeting, I ask the caller to tell me the thing they are most grateful for. I try to get outside and play for a bit every day to keep me sane and healthy. I’ve been taking a lot of 5 pm frisbee breaks lately in the park.
DREAMS: I’ve had my eye on being a New York Times best-selling author for 7 years and also of becoming an Olympian since I was a kid. I’m launching my first major book right now and play Team Handball on the USA National Team. So, I’m working on both of them.
WHAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME: I don’t drink alcohol as I’ve always been focused on athletic performance. The only fruits I eat are apples and bananas. I’m a huge movie fan and see at least one new movie a week, usually at The Grove in WeHo – you’ll probably bump into me there!
Just like everything else Lewis has done, his new book The School of Greatness is fantastic. I was incredibly inspired and really moved, surprisingly so, by the final chapter. I strongly suggest that you get a copy.
