As Internet has completely democratized the process of who becomes well-known, it is people like Lauryn Evarts who have taken full advantage of this opportunity and have amassed a huge following of people from all over the world.
As a powerhouse on social media, this San Diego-based blogger, fitness instructor and model has leveraged her blog into the recently released book The Skinny Confidential: A Babe’s Sexy, Sassy Health and Lifestyle Guide.
Lauryn’s philosophy is about having your cake and eating it too. She does not believe in diets – only recipe modifications, accessible fitness tips, and healthy weight-loss tricks.
Her site, The Skinny Confidential, also offers a store with girly trinkets to enhance any dish along with tons of delicious, guilt-free recipes with half the calories.
I caught up with Lauryn recently and asked her how juicing fits into The Skinny Confidential lifestyle.
Why do you juice?
I juice because of the way it makes me feel and look. Juicing has completely changed my life and it makes my skin, hair, and nails feel good/look good. The nutrients that juicing provides gives me energy throughout the day to blog, work, and workout.
Tell me about your juicing lifestyle.
I started juicing five years ago and now it is something that I do every single day. I’m a real picky juicer, however, and I only use organic veggies and fruits.
I’m a big fan of lemon, and it makes a HUGE difference in my juice. I also add ginger to everything. Lemon and ginger mixed together seriously enhances every juice.
Additionally, I’m a big believer in mixing your juices up. One day I’ll have a green juice, one day I’ll have a carrot ginger juice, and the next day I’ll have a beet/carrot/lemon juice. I also juice throughout the day and pick different juices for different times.
Typically, I start with a lemon juice (I love to add chia seeds) in the morning to alkalize my system. During the day, I love a green juice or a red juice (sweetened with apples or pear), and then in the evening I’ll end with the least sweet juice.
My life literally would be incomplete without juicing.
Do you have a juicing habit that no one knows about?
I don’t know if this is a habit but I love to add little extras to my juice.
Some of my favorites include maca powder, chia seeds, chilled bee pollen, flax seeds, and/or chili flakes.
I’m also obsessed with spicy everything. And spices speed up the metabolism, so a couple times a week I’ll add jalapeños to my juice.
What is one of your favorite pressed organic juices?
My absolute favorite to die for juice company is Suja, which is also located in San Diego.
I am obsessed with Suja because it’s not pasteurized, it’s cold-pressed, the company is 100% quality, and their flavors are the bomb dot com. Some of my favorite flavors are Lemon Love, Fiji, and Twelve Essentials.
Plus, they’re perf for mixing with cocktails.
What kind of juicer do you have at home?
I have a Bella Nutripro Cold Press Juicer and use it frequently.
What are your best tips for staying healthy when traveling?
Bring your own juice, if you can.
If you can’t bring juice while traveling, then do some research on juice bars in the area you’re staying. I also like to bring snacks from home like fruit (apples, pears, bananas), unsalted cashews and almonds, and/or baby carrots and hummus.
I’m also a firm believer on breaking a sweat while on vacation. Whether it’s running, skipping, walking, or jumping, DO SOMETHING. The more you move, the better you’ll feel.
Thanks so much, Lauryn!
